U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Zapata Station, with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS), intercepted an illegal alien smuggling attempt following a vehicle failure to yield on United States Highway 83 (US 83).
The incident occurred on the morning of March 13, when a Border Patrol agent attempted to stop a black Ford Mustang traveling northbound on US 83. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the service unit’s emergency lights and accelerated in an attempt to avoid apprehension. The agent requested assistance from other agencies.
TX DPS troopers responded to assist and encountered the vehicle as it entered south Laredo. The driver of the Mustang again failed to yield and turned eastbound onto Mangana Hein Road where the vehicle came to a stop.
Multiple subjects were observed bailing from the vehicle in an attempt to abscond. Following a foot pursuit by agents and troopers, four illegal aliens were apprehended. They were identified as three nationals from Guatemala and one from Mexico. They were taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol agents and processed accordingly. TX DPS troopers seized the vehicle.
