On Thursday, at approximately 3:50 pm, Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black 2013 Chrysler 300 for an equipment violation on the 23 mile marker southbound on IH 35.
As the deputy approached the right side of the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was then asked to step out, as he was displaying noticeable signs of nervousness.
A small paper bag was discovered inside a luggage containing three stacks of cash held together with rubber bands. A total of $12,780 were seized. The investigation continues.
“I congratulate our deputies for taking a keen interest in getting illicit money off our streets. We remind the public to join the fight against crime and report any suspicious activity by calling 956-415-2878,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
