The Christmas season just got a little brighter for seventeen students from Communities in Schools as local restaurateur Mr. Pete Mims and Judge Tijerina host the fourth annual “Christmas Dinner with the Judge.”
A tradition that began four years ago, seventeen deserving students from the Communities in School program were invited to share an evening of joy, merriment and holiday cheer hosted by Judge Tijerina. These students were selected from different high schools by their counselors. The idea behind the event is to hear each of the student’s personal stories and to have them open up about their future hopes and dreams in a mentoring environment with the Judge.
Mr. Pete Mims, owner of Trattoria Mia and a champion for students in our community, graciously provided a gourmet four-course dinner for the students. “It is always eye opening to see that this simple act of benevolence, empowers students to want to thrive and excel in life and that to me is the most rewarding part,” said Mims. To most students the dining experience was one they had not experienced before.
Each year Tijerina has the opportunity to hear the personal stories of each student and learn about their future aspirations. “The stories shared speak not only to the challenges our young people encounter but also to the spirit of resilience in the face of adversity. These Students are true warriors,” said Tijerina.
Tijerina and Mims also thanked Communities in Schools for always having a profound impact on our students.
