On Tuesday, November 29, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division executed a warrant of arrest for Theft from a Human Corpse, State jail felony on suspect Mateo Gonzalo Arredondo, 44.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators conducted a follow up investigation on a theft report made by the Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office on November 5, 2018. The theft report was in reference to Arredondo, who is a former employee of the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Arredondo was being suspected of taking $204 in U.S. Currency from a victim’s body while in custody of the Medical Examiner’s Office. Sheriff Investigators presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office and enough probable cause was found to approve a warrant for Arredondo. Arredondo turned himself in to Webb County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Tuesday, November 27th. Arredondo was transported to the Webb County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
“I want to congratulate our investigators for a job well done. It is horrible to learn about these type of cases; we remind the people to report any suspicious activity by calling 956-523-4408,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
