U.S. Border Patrol agents manning the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35 recently seized a significant load of marijuana in a stolen trailer.
On Oct. 30, Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 35 Border Patrol checkpoint referred a tractor trailer driven by a United States citizen for a secondary examination after a canine alerted to the odor of concealed humans and/or narcotics. Subsequent secondary examination of the tractor trailer by Border Patrol agents yielded eight bundles of marijuana The total weight of the contraband was 190.4 lbs. (86.4 kg.). The narcotics have an estimated street value of $152,064.
Subsequent investigation revealed the trailer was reported stolen to the Laredo Police Department.
The driver and the tractor were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration special agents. The stolen trailer was recovered by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
