On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division, in a combined operation with Mexican federal police, apprehended and arrested Jonathan Arturo Vazquez, 25, in Nuevo Laredo on an outstanding warrant from Harris County. Vazquez was wanted on capital murder charges.
On December 22, 2015, Vazquez approached from behind and ambushed a 71-year-old security officer who was working at a convenient store in Houston. After robbing and shooting the victim, Vazquez fled to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. He had been evading authorities for three years.
“Working in collaboration with our counterparts from the Mexican federal police, we were able to assist in making sure this suspect is brought to justice,” said Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar. We are hopeful that Vasquez’ arrest will help bring peace of mind to the victim’s family, knowing that the suspect is now behind bars. Fugitives can run but can’t hide! Operation GOTCHA will reach you wherever you are hiding and will bring you to justice.”
