The Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor program (HLVM) welcomes all residents of Laredo to join its Diabetes Empowerment Education Classes . HLVM continues to conduct disease self-management education and provide family support to inspire healthier choices of persons living with diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. HLVM takes a unique family and community approach to address diabetes risk factors and its complications by empowering participants to take control of their chronic disease or risk factors through education topics such as Understanding the Human Body, Understanding Diabetes and its Risk Factors, Monitoring your Body, Health Management through Meal Planning, Diabetes and Physical Activity, Diabetes Complications, Identification and Prevention, Learning about Medications and Medical Care and Living with Diabetes by Mobilizing Family and Friends
These free interactive sessions are offered to persons with diabetes, their family members, and the general public. Everyone who participates receives a free laboratory assay and access to physical activity classes. Door prizes are available to those that complete the sessions.
